This is the 3rd time now this concert has appeared here but with very good reason. This final version, presented here I have mastered from a 1st generation copy of the original, kindly passed to me by Einzak.
I must stress this version sounds nothing like the other versions we have heard to date. This definitive Master is nothing short of superb in every way. Whilst the original had a wonderful, calm, mellow sound, this final Master sounds Epic!
A lot of work went into this master and I now feel completely satisfied with this particular concert and feel excited for fans and new comers to Sigur rós to experience the band at their very best. You can also download this via torrent over on Dimeadozen .

As Ive said before, for some reason the most incredible concert recordings seem to come from this venue. This one is no exception. You can hear its in a big hall but the way the sound fills the hall is so beautifully done as to get a feeling of depth, weight and the sheer power from this music. A wonderfully different sound from the last 3 posts. We see Milano and Daudalagið making a first appearance. Milano in particular a nice surprise as it isn't listed on the notes. I really love the 'background' singing on Milano that Jónsi does. I can't remember if its unique, the way he does it here but the way he ends Milano is exquisite. Also there is a very interesting extended version of Daudalagið here with the intro lasting 4.20!

Same equipment/taper as the last 2 concerts so the quality is just heaven sent! Perhaps out of these three this is the best, its hard to say but it looks like you will have to just download them all :)
A couple of points of interest, Von sounds (again) phenomenally good with the drums rolling beautifully through the sound stage from right to left with Jónsi letting rip in the background in such a way you would probably sell your grandmother/give your right arm to be in his shoes at that time!!
Avalon is played in full and interestingly morphes into Olsen Olsen a rare encore. Also maybe rarer is Jónsi speaking, saying thank you and saying " we are going to play one more song for you as you such an amazing audience and kind off little bit similar to Icelandic people, a little bit crazy in the head but thats nice "
Must add a huge thanks to who ever taped these shoes x

There is nothing I can fault about this concert, everything is just wonderful. It is quite an exceptional stand out concert  because of the drums and the stereo field. The drums are just...epic. Perhaps the best Ive heard on any of these recordings! and if you listen closely during parts of Von you actually hear different drums on different ears, which in quite extraordinary on a live non-commercial recording. I didn't do much work on this one, if anything I had to calm it all down! Its difficult to say if this 'the' best live recording of Sigur Rós but I'd say its easily within the top 5. Couple of interesting historical points, the intro is the start of Starálfur blending into Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása and I think this may be the first time that Jónsi sings the whole of the end of Vaka out loud (it began as quite a subdued end) It sounds like he steps back from the mic, almost as if he's testing it out? Later as it developed Jónsi really belts out Vaka at the end. Seeing him do this  :)
You can see what I mean here: @5.20 onwards (never fails to give me goosebumps)

What an amazing start to the 2002 concerts! A new addition to the *Top Ten Concerts* The quality of this soundboard recording is stunning. What sets it apart from others is the incredible balance of everything, the bass is rich and deep whilst the cymbals come across as deliciously crisp and above everything Jónsi's voice effortlessly soars cleanly and crisply. The performance of Salka is perfect here, perhaps the best Ive yet heard. Von also is sublime. The only thing that stops this being a perfect live recording is the sound of the drums bouncing of the walls for a few moments during some of the songs.

The re-mastering of this amazing concert has breathed new life into what is a modern classic. I have removed all clapping in the interludes so you have a pretty much seamless concert.
There is some excess noise on the first two tracks which unfortunately came with the original, I tried to EQ them out but in the end I have just left them so as not change the track as a whole. Sorry.
If you havn't got this one get it, if you have it already be sure to download this re-mastered version - its well worth it

This score is based on a lost chapter of the bible of norse mythology, the edda.

the edda was originally an unwritten oral history of heathen and early christian scandinavia, where the region's isolation led to a long changeover period to organised religion around 1000ad. the stories, myths and legends of heroic deeds and nordic strife were collected together by persons unknown sometime during the 12th and 13th centuries, before being recorded by danish scholars during the 17th century.
in the 19th century the authenticity of one of the chapters was questioned by a later generation of academics, and 'odin's raven magic' was excised from the text, adjudged as a 15th century fake. now some 150 years later new research has concluded that 'odin's raven magic' was indeed authentic and this autumn it is finally being reintroduced to the edda. it is the loss, and subsequent rediscovery, of this hidden history that sigur rós and hilmar örn hilmarsson are marking here.

Quite a tricky one to do due to the quality, so we have quite a rough, dirty sound which has a big emphasis on the high end giving this concert quite a sibilant sound. In some cases there can be limitations on improvements in quality depending on the original recording so, as in the case here, this is not the best in terms of quality but it does have quite a unique sound. I think its good though overall to have concerts here that emphasise different types of sound with some for example, displaying a large booming drum bass and others, such as this one having more emphasis on the higher end. For those who like a very clear crisp sound this concert will please

This particular concert has a very clear sound with more emphasis on the high than the low end frequencies. The main work with this particular concert was to bring Jónsi's voice back to the centre of the soundstage. A good sound over all but there is some small clipping during the loudest parts.

For some reason every Sigur Rós show from this venue has been spectacular, with this one being no exception. The whole concert is exception although sadly its let down by 'soft clipping' of the bass drum. With a bit of imagination you can pretend you are there at the venue and the bass drum is mic'd a little too loud...which in general works! with the exception of Lagid i Gaer in which the bass is very noticeably clipped. Don't be put off though, the sound itself is wonderful. In fact of all the various 'sounds' from these audience recordings this is my favourite type. Im wondering if some of those lovely DPA mics where used?

Quite simply one of, if not THE very best concert of Sigur Rós. Certainly my favourite from 2001. There's a danger of me writing pages on the good qualities of this one so I'll just put in two words:
Truly Magical!
NB: This is no different from the previously posted version. One of the main reasons of this new layout and Sigur Rós dedicated blog is to host the final versions of all the masters Ive done. During the course of mastering the first round I learnt many new things including a now finalized and agreed upon naming/tagging system for these concerts. This means though that I have to re-upload some of these concerts, but its good in that I can take a second critical listen to the first masters I did and if there are any that I feel can be improved upon can take the time to do just that so that by time this project is completed we should have a complete and exhaustive collection of live Sigur Rós material, properly mastered to get the very best out of each of them

This is a slightly revised 2nd master of this newly arisen concert. The sound itself on this 2nd version is more rounded and much smoother around the edges. It won't be ranked amongst some of the greatest recordings we have but its still a very listenable and powerful concert. Another small change I made on this version was to master it particularly to be played loud. Because we are so fortunate to have such a great collection of live material it gives me on occasion opportunities to do something a little different. In this case to master it going with its strengths and as such it sounds very powerful played loud! Thanks again to Alyssa for her kindness in getting in touch and passing this on.

Rímúr - Tour EP with Steindór Andersen

Rímúr - Tour EP with Steindór Andersen

Information from: http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/band/disco/steindor.php

In early 2001, sigur rós set out to record some songs in their newly-completed Álafoss swimming pool studio with their friend Steindór Andersen. Steindór Andersen is a fisherman and chairman of the Icelandic Poetry Society, called iðunn. Steindór is a chanter/singer of the traditional Icelandic epic poetry form called Rímur. Rímur are narrative poems which generally tell stories of Icelandic heroes and epic battles which have been passed down generations in Iceland through word-of-mouth since the 14th century. Rímur were regarded as a performance art; a good Rímur chanter would engage his listeners with his clever rhyming schemes and catchy melodies. Rímur were performed on winter nights when inhabitants sat occupied by their work (making clothing from wool, wreathing horsehairs into ropes, cutting tools from wood, etc.) For seven centuries, this was icelanders' only branch of entertainment and it's only recently that this tradition has dissolved.
the Steindór Andersen ep contains six songs, three of which Sigur Rós accompany him on. Two songs feature Steindór alone and the last song on the cd is Steindór and his friend Sigurður Sigurðarson singing the poem Lžkurinn (the stream), recorded under the bridge of the stream by Sigur Rós's studio.
1000 copies of the cd were printed and sold in the spring tour of 2001, where Steindór joined the band to perform the songs from the ep. (here is a photo of Steindór performing with the band.) The cd was sold in a blank white paper case and the artwork on the cd itself was minimal. there are currently no plans to release this cd.

This event marked Sigur ros's 1st exposure to America. As Nic Harcourt, the host DJ says "Agaetis Bryjun is the most requested and continuously out of stock import that the record stores have" Its great to hear a young Sigur ros talking about the future especially in retrospect. There is some beautiful reverbed guitar playing on the begining of the Hafssol. Always makes me laugh hearing Kjarten blowing a quick raspberry at the end of Hafssól!

Lineage: Unknown Aud
Quality/Performance: B+/A

After a disappointing quick listen to the original I almost didn't master this one but thank goodness I did as it has turned into one which actually sounds really good and has a quite unique and  particular sound, which is always welcome on these masters. What strikes me most about this one is how you get something of the power of a Sigur Rós concert in terms of the depth of the low end parts of the sound. One thing I remember very clearly from seeing them in 2005 was how I could feel the bass guitar going straight through me and hitting the back of the chair! A very powerful experience and one which the sound here reminds me off. This concert also includes my all time favourite SR song as well - Hugann seiða svalli frá, so it gets a double thumbs up. This is a great concert to play really loud. Enjoy :)

This concert has come as a real surprise, the quality being very different from the 1st time I came across this concert. The sound is just amazingly good but what's most exciting is having the 3 'Rimur' songs here as performed bySteindor Anderson in a quality I don't believe we have heard before. Simply stunning.

However... Only the first nine songs are in this quality. The last four (which originaly I wasn't going to include) are off an inferior
standard but for the sake of completeness they are included as a '2nd disk'
Part 2 of the FLAC downloads just contains the 3 Rimur tracks if you particularly want those on their own

A great performance featuring a rare appearance from Steindór Andersen the head chap from the Icelandic Traditional Rhyming Society. The sound quality itself is a little mixed due mainly to the size and reverb of the venue itself and some clipping during early parts of the recording. Ironically, on the night Geog himself was a little worried about how the venue acoustics would affect the sound. A few songs though come through very well though such as 'Olsen Olsen' and 'Svefn-G-Englar'

Quality/Performance: A+ (*Top 10 Concert*)

This concerts sits comfortably within the '*Top 10 Concerts*' category, a category designated to the hand full
of concerts that are exceptional and stand out from the rest by their exceptional quality, performance or both. Even though the first master I had done was good enough I spent a bit more time on this one adding a little more warmth, depth and clarity. Not a huge difference but one which I feel is well deserved. One very lovely aspect of this particular recording is the drums. They have the most prefect reverb and 'boom' but, only at the points where its really needed, for instance during Dauðalagið.
Its not perhaps obvious at first why this is such a great concert because nothing about it really stands out but ironically that is what makes it so good. Its wonderfully balanced, played and leaves you feeling completely satisfied. An epic Sigur Rós at their most comfortable & confident.

A very nice quality concert although there were quite a few 'oddities' that arose during the mastering! Its archived as an audience recording but there were some audio artifacts that appeared, that Ive only seen before; during the recording of a web-streamed concert and there is a brief drop out in signal. For this reason I've amended the lineage. Also the tracks do differ slightly in quality throughout the concert so again this may be possible with bitrates dropping & rising during a stream. Anyway, its still a very nice concert that does seem to share something off a soundboard type element in the audio so its reccomended.

One of the very finest live recording of Sigur Rós we are lucky to have. This one has always easily taken pride of place as one of the top 5 of all time. Not much to say about it as it speaks for itself but listening to the drums on 'Von' is as close to Sigur Rós heaven as you can get!! There is a potential issue with the sound itself as explained in the notes. Any comments gratefully received. Also, perfectionists may wish to adjust some small tagging errors that I made with regard to Icelandic lettering (still learning about the correct use of them!)

Very nice audience Cam capture. There is some brief pixalation in parts and the begining starts approximatly half way through Nyjá Lagið but over all a very nice video. Maybe the only video with Jónsi sporting a skinhead haircut!
Its quite a big file at 1.6gb. Ive started .Rar'ing instead of .zip'ing these video files so hopefully there should be no issues with Mac users

A very interesting concert to work with. It was documented as being a soundboard which led me to being very puzzled at some of the weird audio discrepancies that were arising during the mastering which have no place appearing on a soundboard recording. To cut a long story short, this is an audience recording and not a soundboard although its still an  excellant recording. Over all its a very good recording/concert but please be aware of the following issues: 1, In some of the loudest sections there is some clipping although its too bad 2, the soundstage is a little off on some of the tracks 3, The tracks are often different from each other but each can be enjoyed on its own merits. Don't let any of that put you off though ! Its still a great concert, in fact in parts, quite stunning

This is the same concert as previously posted although this version does not contain the complete set list. However the sound quality for this one is exceptional and I feel better than the FM one. Also with the previous FM Broadcast post there are elements that sometimes give it something of a feel of an audience recording (although as stated its still a superb concert) There where 2 extra tracks that came with this recording, the radio announcer introducing and ending the show. I haven't included these as they had no relevance to the music although this will explain the sharper than usual fade out at the end of the last track!
A fantastic show and certainly due the mixing, one of the most interesting to listen to from this period

An absolutely stunning concert both in quantity and quality. Alafos is simply breathtaking. There is something about the line up of tracks which works really well.
